Bluebirds Forever

Frequently described as delightful, gentle and sweet, North America’s bluebirds continue to bring happiness to all, thanks to grass-roots efforts and recovery programs.

In Bluebirds Forever, through extraordinary photos and comprehensive text, nature photographer/author Connie Toops pays homage to the bird that “carries the sky on his back” (David Thoreau). The text explores the migratory, mating and nesting habits of Eastern, Mountain and Western bluebirds. Toops also unravels the birds’ mysterious decline and explains how to entice bluebirds to your backyard. A special 16-page pullout supplement contains bluebird box plans and lists local bluebird organizations.

Also recommended: Hummingbirds: Jewels in Flight, Owls, Eagles: Masters of the Sky, Loons: Song of the Wild.

A freelance photojournalist, Connie Toops has taken photos that have appeared in Audubon and Sierra Club calendars and books published by National Geographic, Sierra Club, Reader’s Digest, Time-Life, and Voyageur Press. She has written nine nature books, including four other Voyageur Press titles: Hummingbirds: Jewels in Flight, The Florida Everglades, Owls, and Great Smoky Mountains.
